Chives are a hardy perennial herb, perfect for adding flavour to summer dishes, soups, and salads – both the leaves and pretty purple flowers are edible. A favourite with bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, their nectar-rich blooms make them a fantastic addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.
Easy to grow, chives work well as a companion plant, helping deter pests like carrot root fly, while their compact growth makes them ideal for edging paths, borders, or vegetable beds. They thrive in sunny, well-drained spots but also adapt to moist soils, making them a great choice for pond margins.
With cheerful globe-shaped purple flowers from May to August, chives are as decorative as they are useful, bringing both beauty and biodiversity to your outdoor space.

Care Instructions
Keep the soil moist and remove spent flowers to encourage fresh leaf growth. After flowering in late summer, trim the plant back to about 5cm (2in) above the ground – this will stimulate a new burst of tender, flavourful leaves.
Repotting Instructions
Remove the plant from the pot, and plant in ground, in a hole deep enough to accommodate the root ball.
